Date Set for Last Evrard Defendant's Trial
By Bill Hughes
PADUCAH, KY - A motion hour was held today for Jasmine Taylor, the only defendant in the CaSondra Evrard kidnapping and murder case who has not had a trial.
Following motions, Taylor's mental competency hearing was set for Sept. 12, and her trial has been scheduled for Jan 20-27, 2014.
Taylor's father, Mark was denied a motion Wednesday requesting lighter sentences, and is now required to serve two life sentences. He is expected to appeal within the next 30 days, but a new trial would renew the possibility of a death penalty sentence for the capital kidnapping charge.
Jamie Taylor, Jasmine's mother, made a plea deal in December 2012, getting a life sentence for her part in the murder. She is expected to testify in her daughter's trial, and will be sentenced while the jury deliberates Jasmine's fate.
Three other defendants were also formally sentenced Wednesday.
