Princeton Man Faces Murder Charge

PRINCETON, KY - A Princeton man is charged with murder, after police say he stabbed a woman to death at a Princeton home.
At around 5:05 am Tuesday, Kentucky State Police were contacted by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department about a stabbing that occurred at a home located at 511 North Plum Street in Princeton.
The investigation showed that the victim, 50-year-old Penny Riley, of Princeton, and the suspect, 39-year-old John E. Barnwell II, also of Princeton, were involved in a verbal disagreement that turned physical. Barnwell reportedly stabbed Riley and fled the scene. Police later found Barnwell at his home on Needmore Road in Princeton, where he was taken into custody.
Riley was taken to Caldwell County Medical Center where she later died.
Barnwell is charged with murder and theft of an automobile, and was taken to Caldwell County Jail. No bond has been set.
An autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville. The reported cause of death was a single stab wound.
The investigation is continuing by KSP Det. Billy Sumner. KSP Post 2 troopers and detectives, the Princeton Police Department, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department and the Caldwell County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
